The seminar is devoted to lattice dynamics and structural properties of short-period AlN/GaN superlattices (SLs) experimental and theoretical study. During the seminar, the approach allowing to bind the peculiarities obtained in the experimental Raman spectra with structural properties by applying ab initio calculations within the framework of the density functional theory will be discussed. The brief introduction on growth and experimental investigation methods will be given as well as the ab initio theoretical approaches. According to phonon states, it will be shown the two general class of vibrations, namely the one which confined in each layer and the delocalized ones. The influence of interface sharpness on Raman spectra alteration is discussed theoretically in terms of supercell approach. Finally, the discussed approaches are summed up as methods which allows one to use Raman spectroscopy accompanied with ab initio calculations as a technique to characterize the structural properties and the quality of the sample.
