RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Our research work is focused on the processing of biodegradable polyesters and the development of bio-sourced materials. Natural biopolyesters, produced by bacteria, such as poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate)s, PHAs, are a material of choice, due to their intrinsic properties such as biodegradability and biocompatibility. PHAs are prepared from natural resources other than petroleum derivatives. We work in collaboration with microbiologists from various French and international organizations to develop PHAs. Our objective is to combine biotechnology and chemistry to elaborate functional PHAs having controlled structures, with high added value, intended for biomedical applications as systems for the release of bioactive molecules, supports for tissue engineering, medical devices or antibacterial materials. These bio-based polyesters can also be used as materials for sustainable construction as composite matrices or porous systems.
